Idea
Among the many tools at an organizer's disposal, file cabinets are the most popular but also the least elegant. These metal behemoths weigh hundreds of pounds and consume tons of space. And while they keep paperwork out of sight, the cabinets themselves—boxy, hard, blank—are an eyesore. Before you shove more paperwork into an overburdened file drawer, we offer a solution that's easier on the office—and on the eyes: the "Pile Box." With just a few russell+hazel File Boxes, your paperwork—tax records, project materials and other files—is neatly filed and shelved above the fray. Designed with a list of contents inside and an exterior label for easy identification, Pile Boxes free up room while preserving access and neat presentation in your well-mannered office.

Put It Together
1. Download the Pile Box label template PDF. 2. Print the template onto full-sheet label paper. Template includes 3 x 10" labels for the inside flap and smaller exterior labels for the box's spine. Trim out the labels with scissors. 3. Peel and stick labels inside the Pile Box flap and on the exterior spine. On the exterior label, assign the box a specific category or project name, e.g., "Medical records, 1/1/06 - 6/30/06." 4. Fill the box with your materials. Each time you add something, list the contents on the inside label with the date it was added. 5. File Pile Boxes on a bookshelf out of your way.
